Dear SUMC members and friends,
Greetings in the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ! As the leaves are turning colors, we are busy preparing for Chicken Booyah and the Fall Dinner in our church. I thank you all for your support for our church by attendance, prayers, gifts, talents and generous giving. The other day a plank on the parsonage roof fell off because of the wind. When I informed the Trustees about it, five people came to the parsonage within a few hours and fixed the roof instantly. How thankful I was! While talking about food with two church members, I said, “I like liver and onion. I even like sauerkraut.” The following morning I found a small icebox in the office. I was surprised that someone brought beef liver and sauerkraut for me. How thankful I was! A poet wrote in Psalm 139:1, “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good, for his steadfast love endures forever.” We have reasons to be thankful to God and to our loved ones for many blessings in our lives. As a traditional hymn sings, “Count Your Blessings One By One,” let us be thankful to God for our family, friends, food, health, and freedom to worship. Albert Einstein said, “There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” As believers, let us believe that life is full of miracles and let us celebrate little things in our lives. As we celebrate the Thanksgiving holiday, let us give thanks to God and to our loved ones for many blessings we enjoy. Let us live our lives in such a way that somebody may thank God for our love and kindness. May God bless us so that we may be blessings to people in the world! A Medieval mystic, Meister Eckhardt, said, “If the only prayer you ever say in your entire life is thank you, it will be enough.” “O give thanks to the Lord, for He is good” With gratitude, Pastor Jerry |
