One of the most powerful spiritual practices we can use is gratitude. We are creatures of endless needs. Once we have one thing, we want another. This can lead to healthy growth such as achieving goals, but we can also be pulled into ceaseless desiring of things that never really satisfy.
Gratitude is the cure for this ceaseless cycle. What are we thankful for, today? Not, what are we lacking today, or what do we want tomorrow? But what do we already have, that God has provided. This month we have a new opportunity to come together to express our gratitude. St. John’s Lutheran Church in Little Suamico has invited us to participate in an ecumenical service on Thanksgiving Eve. I will be helping to lead the service. We have an opportunity for a Suamico lay person to do one of the scripture readings. We have also been invited to join their choir. Their choir director will come by after the 10:30 service on November 13 to practice with whoever would like to join them. The service will be on November 23rd at 7 p.m. followed by pie and ice cream. I hope you will join us as Lutherans and Methodists join forces to give thanks for all that the Lord has provided. See you in church! Pastor Eric All Saint’s Day
Golden leaves flutter down. Those who gathered sun Now scatter their light onto the forest floor, Like lives remembered, before being laid to rest. Just as we, for a time, burn brightly green Then let our loveliness fall to the ground ― Trusting our lives to the saplings, Our light becoming theirs. ―Rev. Eric Nelson |
