Dear church members and friends,
After the winter comes the spring. Snow will melt and tulips will shoot up. Robins will come back and new leaves will be budding. In our church we will be in the 40 days of Lenten season, starting with Ash Wednesday on Feb. 26th. Lent means spring. Lent also means 40 days of spiritual discipline until the morning of Easter. The Bible says that Hebrew people wandered in the desert for 40 years on their way to the Promised Land. Jesus had spent 40 days and nights in the desert, overcoming the temptations of the devil before his public ministry began. During the 40 days of Lenten season, spiritual disciplines such as reading the Bible and/or devotional books, prayer and meditation, fasting or cutting down on intake of unhealthy foods, doing charitable works for those in need; have been advised and encouraged. During the Lenten season, I would like to suggest that our church members and friends do three good deeds: One good deed for yourself, one good deed for your family and one good deed for your church. At the end of 40 days, I pray, we will have crossed the spiritual desert of godlessness, egotism, and hubris to the Promised Land of godliness, altruism, and humility. Jesus said, “If you wish to follow me, take up your cross and follow me.” Go with Jesus! Sincerely, Pastor Jerry |
