Spiritual Vitamins April 15, 2020

Dear SUMC members and friends,
Life is short. Savor each moment!
Be safe and be well!
Pastor Jerry

Spiritual Vitamins (4/15/2020) by Pastor Jerry Cho
“Eat, drink, and be merry.”  - Ecclesiastes 8:15

“Meaningless! Meaningless! Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless!” wrote the pessimistic wise man, the author of the book of “Ecclesiastes”. At the end of life, money, power, and glory of life become like withering flowers. So he advised, “Eat, drink, and be merry while you can.” Yesterday is dead and gone and tomorrow is out of sight. So seize the moment. The time to celebrate life is here and now. Eat, drink, and be merry with your loved ones. Finally, he concludes his book, by saying, “Fear God and keep His commands, for this is everyone’s duty.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13)

Today’s prayer for the 96 % of Americans who are hunkered down in social distancing: Dear Lord, we realize that we are only human beings. We are not invincible. We feel vulnerable to this life-threatening virus. Help us to find peace of mind by doing our best to keep ourselves safe and leave the rest to you! Amen.

1.    “Life is very, very short and we should savor every minute.”
-Wilma P. Mankiller, chief of the Cherokees
2.    “No nun will be a part of our order unless she likes to sleep, she likes to eat and she likes to laugh.”
                   – St. Teresa of Avila
3.     Andres Segovia, who is 88: “My prayer to the Lord, every day, is this –
I have been a great sinner. I do not deserve heaven. Let me stay here.”
